TBILISI, April 14 – Heavy rainfall and a surging river have forced traffic restrictions on a key road in eastern Georgia, with authorities temporarily banning light vehicles from one affected section.
Georgia’s Roads Department said the restriction is in place at the 130-kilometer mark of the Tbilisi-Bakurtsikhe-Lagodekhi road, near the village of Heretiskari. The road is classified as one of international importance.
According to Interpressnews, the Alazani River rose after heavy precipitation, leading officials to halt the movement of passenger cars and other light vehicles on that stretch.
The Roads Department said vehicles with two or more driving axles, along with trucks, are still allowed to pass freely through the area.
