TBILISI, DFWatch–Parliament on Wednesday approved a new vice speaker, following the departure of one party from the government coalition.
The Free Democrats left the Georgian Dream coalition November 5, and now the party’s highest ranking parliamentarian Zurab Abashidze was dismissed from his post as vice speaker.
104 MPs voted in favor of Gubaz Sanikidze as new vice speaker. He represents the National Forum, a traditionalist and fiercely anti-Saakashvili party which had a high profile during the anti-government demonstrations in 2008-2011.
Abashidze has been vice speaker since 2012 and was proposed by the Georgian Dream coalition. It was also Georgian Dream that now decided to replace him.
