TBILISI, DFWatch–A huge plume of smoke seen over Tbilisi Tuesday afternoon turned out to be a fire in a warehouse selling paint at a bazaar in the city center.
Rescue workers evacuated people from the warehouse at Eliava bazaar on the left bank of the Mtkvari river and nearby facilities.
More than a dozen fire trucks were dispatched to the scene.
There is no verified information about casualties. At least three people have been hospitalized so far. Locals living near Eliava bazaar told the news agency Interpressnews that two workers might have been caught in the fire.
Eliava bazaar, or Eliava market, is an area dozens of hectares large that has hundreds of small shops selling mostly construction and building materials and supplies. The areas between the shops are usually filled with various goods and crowds of people.
