TBILISI, DFWatch–A Chinese worker was injured in a fire on Sunday on the construction site of the future Olympic village in Tbilisi.

About 700 square meters was burned in the fire. The Chinese worker who was injured was taken to hospital. The fire spread across an area with cottages which were used as dormitories for the construction workers, most of whom are Chinese citizens.

According to preliminary information, what started the fire was a heater inside one of the cottages. It took firefighters about forty minutes to extinguish the fire.

European Youth Olympic Festival will be held in Tbilisi July 26 – August 1. The decision was made four years ago and the five acres site is located at Tbilisi Sea, the largest lake in the vicinity of the Georgian capital.

When completed, the village will consist of around 50 buildings, including an administration office, conference hall, houses, diners and other facilities. The village will be able to accommodate about 4,000 athletes.

European Youth Olympic Festival will host guests from 48 countries. The previous such festival was held in the Netherlands. The winter version of the same festival will take place in Austria and Liechtenstein in 2015.
