TBILISI, DFWatch – NATO ambassadors are visiting Georgia, holding meetings with officials.

The ambassadors have met with Public Defender Giorgi Tughushi, who said after the meeting that the guests were interested in the problems in Georgian media, including satellite dishes.

He said the delegation members asked how many TV companies exist here and how important it is that they are able to transmit by satellite dishes.

The Public Defender said they were introduced to the general picture in this regards.

“They were also interested in the reason for seizing satellite dishes.”

At the meeting they discussed problems of Georgian media in the election period, and how the election will be conducted in prisons.

The meeting lasted over one hour. The ombudsman informed the guests about the public defender’s office’s activity for the last six months in regards to human rights.

The guests also met with representatives of local non-government organizations and discussed the situation in the period before the election. They spoke about the general situation in the media, the must-carry and must-offer principles, the Central Election Commission and the voters’ list commission.

NGO representatives said after the meeting that ambassadors remarked that democratic processes are developing in a positive direction.

The delegation will hold meetings with Georgia’s foreign minister, the parliament speaker and the minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
