TBILISI, DFWatch – Today several laws are up for revision which will change Georgia’s election system and set the ground rules for the parliamentary election in October 2012.

This will be the second hearing of the changes in the constitution, the electoral code and the law on political associations.

Included in the bill are new rules and regulations, some of which are part of an agreement between the government and part of the opposition.

But there are also new regulations that the government has introduced on its own, some of which have been controversial.

There are new restrictions on party financing which many see as a measure to prevent a financier turned politician from playing a role in the next election.

The bill will be passed at a special session next week.
