TBILISI, October 1 – Heavy rain caused flooding and traffic problems in Batumi and nearby Makhinjauri on Tuesday, with several streets and residential yards under water and a landslide partially blocking a major road, Interpressnews reported.
Batumi City Hall said several streets and the yards of residential buildings were flooded after the downpour. Municipal crews and heavy equipment were deployed, with pumping work carried out at affected locations.
The city said there were no disruptions to the water supply.
In Makhinjauri, a slope collapsed along Tamar Mepe Avenue, partially restricting vehicle traffic. Movement from Chakvi toward Batumi was limited, while drivers were able to use the highway as an alternative route. Traffic leaving Batumi remained open.
Road-clearing crews and equipment were working at the site.
Despite the flooding and landslide, municipal public transport was operating without disruption, according to City Hall.
