TBILISI, DFWatch–Georgian constitutional scholar Vakhushti Menabde has sharply criticized the country’s opposition for failing to address urgent democratic concerns ahead of the upcoming local elections.
In an interview with Palitra News, Menabde said opposition parties neglected to shape a coherent electoral strategy or spotlight threats to democratic rights. Instead, they became mired in personal disputes and online spats.
“They should have set clear demands months ago,” he said, slamming opposition figures for turning their frustration inward, while toning down their criticism of the ruling GD. Now, the political process is jammed, he warned.
Menabde, a constitutional lawyer, is also a founding member of the newly founded Movement for Social Democracy, a group that advocates for social justice, economic equality, and stronger democratic resistance in Georgia.
