TBILISI, DFWatch–Georgia’s new ambassador to the US will continue his activity just like his predecessors did.
Newly appointed ambassador Archil Gegeshidze Tuesday said President Mikheil Saakashvili for month didn’t sign the document about confirming ambassadors.
But finally on Monday, Saakashvili signed and confirmed the new ambassadors, including the ambassador to the US. Gegeshidze gives its approval, a procedure which can take from one to three months.
Gegeshidze on Tuesday said that the US promises to send the agreement within one month.
An agenda is already agreed with the US and there is a whole spectrum of areas in which he will work after he becomes ambassador.
“Georgia has got two major goals – this is security and welfare and to achieve this, the US is the largest resource due the potential, which this country has,” Gegeshidze explained.
The ambassador says it will be his priority to use the support of the US to accelerate Georgia’s Euro-integration, strengthen its defense ability and to retain stability of the non-recognition policy. Among his priorities are to deepen trade relations and to attract investments from the US, cooperation in cultural, educational and science fields.
