TBILISI, DFWatch–The Central Election Commission in Georgia Wednesday chose Tamar Zhvania as new chair.

Zhvania previously worked on election issues at UNDP. She received the votes of all six of the commission members.

President Mikheil Saakashvili on Monday presented three candidates for new CEC head.

The CEC held a session on Wednesday to elect a replacement for Zurab Kharatishvili, who resigned a few weeks ago, explaining that he wanted to go into politics.

Georgia will hold presidential election on October 27.
