TBILISI, DFWatch–Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili on Monday promised that the ‘dark forces’ attempting to blackmail free society will be defeated and fittingly punished.

“I guarantee that the fight against those criminals will be won,” he said at a briefing in response to the release of more videos depicting private scenes involving well-known people.

Margvelashvili expressed solidarity with the people who are being blackmailed and are threatened by ‘dark forces.’

“I stand by you and will always protect you,” he said.

“I can tell society today that sex and sex life is not shameful. I personally have a sex life. I’ve had a rich sex life and will have in the future, and I will always protect you. I will do my best to remove the unreasonable dark stigma from this topic,” he said.

Margvelashvili again addressed those who release the videos and are using them to blackmail people that they will soon be found and they won’t be able to continue their terror.

“Georgians have never lived with these dark ideas, as we have always been free,” he said, adding that Georgia got its independence and people have to become free, and freedom means not being afraid.

The president said that he has discussed the sex tapes with the speaker of parliament, the prime minister and law enforcement bodies, and assured that all government bodies are involved and coordinating their work on the case.

Friday and Monday, videos were uploaded to Youtube depicting sex scenes involving well-known people. The clip uploaded on Monday also carried a warning that more videos would be published.

An investigation was launched pursuant to article 157 of the Criminal Code about illegally spreading private or family secrets. Violations may be punished with up to three years in prison.
