TBILISI, DFWatch – Georgia today presented its new combat vehicle Lazika at the Vaziani military base not far from the capital Tbilisi.
The demonstration of the new vehicle’s technical and tactical abilities was attended by the Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili.
Lazika is equipped with a remote weapons control system and fire control system, and is fitted with a 23 mm caliber cannon and 7.62 mm caliber machine gun. The armor is combined and provides protection from 14.5 mm caliber bullets.
The vehicle also is equipped with thermal vision cameras, and can remotely detect target from inside, as well as identification and management of fire in any conditions. It is built for a crew of three, and can carry seven more.
This is the second combat vehicle produced by Georgia. The vehicle Didgori was presented last year.
“Didgori is patrol, reconnaissance, light armored. Lazika presented today is a heavyly armored, advanced and strong offensive weapon, the production of which many states do not have, in principle,” Georgia’s Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia told journalists, adding that his country will continue to develop in this direction.
