Georgia scores higher on freedom and happiness

(Interpressnews.)

TBILISI, March 24 – The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party said Tuesday that the country recorded its highest ever score in the latest World Happiness Report.

GD officials claimed the latest ranking results covering 147 countries, compiled by Oxford University, highlight a strong progress in living conditions and public confidence in the South Caucasus nation.

In a statement, the party said Georgia received 5.64 points out of 10 in the 2026 World Happiness Report, which it described as a new historical maximum for the country. Georgian Dream also said Georgia ranked third in the world for long-term progress when researchers compared baseline survey results from 2006-2010 with more recent data from 2023-2025.

According to the party’s statement, the report says the top five countries for historical progress are all in Central and Eastern Europe: Serbia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Latvia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Georgian Dream also pointed to two specific categories where, it said, Georgia made Europe’s top twenty: freedom to make life choices and perception of corruption. In the first category, the party said Georgia ranked ahead of 19 EU and NATO member states. In the second, it said Georgia ranked ahead of 20 EU and NATO member states.

World Happiness Report is published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at Oxford University in partnership with the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and Gallup. The study covers 147 countries and territories and includes a 20-year historical analysis of changes in quality of life.
