TBILISI, DFWatch–The government in Georgia plans to hold a big outdoors concert in the capital to celebrate the signing of a treaty with the European Union on June 27.

Georgian singers from Europe and from Georgia will perform at the concert, which will also feature speeches by Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, the one who will sign the agreement, and President Giorgi Margvelashvili.

On June 28, the prime minister will meet with diplomats in Batumi, a city on the Black Sea coast, according to government spokesperson Nino Kobakhidze.

The Georgian delegation which at 9 AM will attend the signing ceremony in Brussels will also be present at the concert in Tbilisi the same evening.


Part of the Georgian delegation are already in Brussels, including Deputy Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili and Deputy Justice Minister Gocha Lortkipanidze. They will be given an action plan, which is part of the new treaty, by EU’s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.

The Georgian president will not attend the signing ceremony in Brussels.

In a recent statement, the European Union claimed that the new agreement will boost Georgia’s economy.

“The Agreement should allow the Georgian economy to catch up with the EU in terms of competitiveness and thereby gradually find its place in the world economy.”

The concert will start at 21:00 in the evening of June 27 at the Europe’s Square.
