TBILISI, DFWatch–The number of foreign visitors to Georgia went up 12.9% and the number of tourists 18.1% in the last six months, the National Tourism Administration said on Monday.
The latest figures confirm that Georgia continues to attract more visitors. Presenting the report, tourism chief Giorgi Chogovadze gave the exact number of foreign visitors from January to June as 2,636,313. This is 12.9 percent more than in the same time period last year.
Out of the total number of visitors, 1,011,680 are classified as tourists, which means that they spent more than 24 hours in Georgia. This is 18.1 percent more than last year. Only in June, the number of tourists was 228,866 – 15.8 percent more than last year.
The highest number of visitors came from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Armenia, Russia and Ukraine.
Chogovadze said Georgia had a total income from tourism of USD 1.94 billion in 2015, which is USD 149 million more than in 2014.
The income in the first quarter of 2016 was USD 354.5 million – 15.7 percent more than last year.
