TBILISI, February 5 – China’s embassy in Georgia hosted a reception in Tbilisi this week to mark the upcoming Spring Festival, bringing together diplomats, business leaders, educators, and members of the Chinese community living in the country.

The event was held on Monday and drew around 160 participants, including representatives of the embassy, Chinese-funded companies, Confucius Institutes, overseas Chinese, ethnic Chinese residents, and Chinese students studying in Georgia, according to Xinhua.

Speaking at the reception, Chinese Ambassador Zhou Qian said Chinese enterprises operating in Georgia had played a role over the past year in advancing major projects in areas such as investment, infrastructure, telecommunications, and energy. He also highlighted the work of Confucius Institute teachers and volunteers in promoting Chinese language and culture in Georgia.

Liu Guangwen, a veteran professor at the Free University of Tbilisi who has spent decades teaching Chinese, spoke about China’s development and said she remains committed to strengthening cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the two countries.

Hou Qingming, head of the Chinese diaspora association in Georgia, said members of the community continue to observe traditional customs despite living abroad, describing the Spring Festival as an important moment of cultural connection.

Li Rui, president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Georgia, said many employees of Chinese companies had chosen to stay at their posts during the holiday period to ensure the steady progress of ongoing projects.

The reception formed part of annual Spring Festival activities organized by the Chinese Embassy in Georgia and served as a gathering point for the local Chinese community ahead of the Lunar New Year celebrations.
