TBILISI, July 29 – A court in Georgia has released a former police officer on bail after prosecutors accused him of unlawfully keeping and sharing intimate photos of women and stalking one of them.
Zugdidi District Court set bail at 60,000 GEL on Wednesday. The prosecution itself requested bail as the preventive measure, according to Georgian media reports.
Prosecutors said the man obtained intimate photographs of three alleged victims through WhatsApp and stored them illegally. He is also accused of sending photos involving one of the women to another person through Messenger.
Investigators further allege that he repeatedly followed one of the women, appeared near her home and made unwanted contact. Prosecutors said the conduct caused her psychological harm and forced her to make significant changes to her way of life.
Some Georgian media outlets reported that the photos had been taken secretly during procedures at an aesthetics center in the western Samegrelo region and later used to blackmail women.
The allegations about blackmail are only reported in the media and do not appear in the prosecutor’s case, which concern the unlawful possession and distribution of private material and stalking, offenses which nonetheless carry a possible prison sentence of up to seven years.
TV Pirveli reported that the case dates back to April 2025 and had been under investigation since then. The former officer was detained after allegedly attempting to leave Georgia last Sunday, July 26.
His lawyer said he was travelling to Turkey because of his child’s health. The lawyer also clarified that the man continued working in the police service during the investigation and left the force about one month ago because of family circumstances.
