Batumi tears down unauthorized buildings along historic boulevard

(Interpressnews.)

TBILISI, February 4 – Authorities in Batumi are dismantling unauthorized and visually unsuitable structures as part of a city cleanup drive aimed at improving the seaside city’s appearance.

The Government of Adjara said the removals focus on unlicensed objects and buildings that no longer meet legal or aesthetic standards. Officials said the work will be followed by restoration of the affected areas, including the full recovery of green spaces.

One of the sites currently being dismantled is a cafe-bar located in the Old Boulevard area. Authorities said the venue’s lease term, set out in its contract, has expired.

The operation is being carried out under the supervision of the Batumi Municipal Inspection, with support from mobile teams of Batumi Boulevard Administration.

Officials said that once demolition work is completed, the space will be cleared, landscaped, and returned to public use, with greenery fully restored.

Batumi’s Old Boulevard is one of the city’s most popular public spaces and a key tourist area along the Black Sea coast.
