TBILISI, DFWatch–The National Bank of Georgia has issued a new anniversary coin in connection with the national currency’s 20 years of existence.
The nominal value of the new collector’s item is 20 laris, and it was manufactured by Mennica Polska in Poland. 1,500 coins were made and the retail price of each of them is 95 laris (USD 40).
The coin, which weighs 28.28 grams and consists of 93% silver, is sold at the National Bank, on the website of the bank and at the money museum in Kvareli, in the Kakheti region.
It has an engraving depicting the sun which according to designer Bacha Malazonia symbolizes eternity and life, while the red color of the sun’s rays symbolizes power, strength and courage. The coin has the new lari symbol in the middle.
Georgian lari replaced the coupon in 1995 during the presidency of Eduard Shevardnadze. Lari is an old Georgian world meaning treasure and property.
