TBILISI, DFWatch–Former Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishivli says he thinks there is a 25 percent chance that Georgia will become ‘another Dubai’.
Ivanishvili said this at a press conference on Tuedsay, where he presented his new non-governmental organization (NGO), ‘Citizen’.
The businessman shared his views on the economy and challenges in this area.
He said there is a 90 percent probability that the Georgian economy will double in the next 5-6 years.
“If everything develops perfectly, we should get doubled economic growth,” he said, adding that there is already the right background for this to happen.
“Miracles cannot happen, right? But if there is economic stability, correctly written laws and the correct attitude to law, when business is untouched – which is done already – then it is 90 percent probability that this will happen,” he continued, and added that he believes there is a 25 percent chance that Georgia will be a second Dubai.
Ivanishvili recalled a recent speech by Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili at the Munich Security Conference where he said that Georgia had low economic growth in 2013.
The businessman said he doesn’t agree with this.
“I would criticize Gharibashvili because he incorrectly used the term that we had a drop in the economy under the new government,” Ivanishvili said.
He doesn’t agree with this, he emphasized, because his government began starting to improve the economy at a time when the budget and resources were almost emptied by the previous government, and the new government, he said, managed to improve this situation.
