TBILISI, DFWatch–Hundreds of people demonstrated in the streets of Tbilisi Wednesday to support the protesters in Kyiv.
Georgians, as well as Ukrainians living in Georgia, gathered in the evening outside Tbilisi concert hall, waving the flags of Ukraine, EU and Georgia, as well as pro-EU and anti-Russia banners.
They demonstrated on Rustaveli Avenue and shouted ‘Slava to Ukraine! Slava to Heroes!’ ‘Freedom!’ ‘Ukraine in Europe!’
The main street was partly blocked for a while. Activists stopped in front of the old parliament building, where supporters of Ukraine have gathered every day recently.
Later they moved on to the old City Council building on Freedom Square, which City Hall has decorated with yellow and blue lights, the same colors as in the Ukrainian flag. At the entrance to the building there was hanging a large Ukrainian flag.
Standing next to the building, Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava said it was lit in the colors of the Ukrainian flag as a sign of solidarity. If Ukraine wins, Georgia wins too in this fight, he said.
“That is why the solidarity of each of us is important to people who want the same – they want to be in Europe – which is their place and our place,” he added.
Ukrainians living in Georgia addressed the activists and thanked them in the name of the Ukrainian people.
The Georgian parliament on Wednesday passed a statement expressing concern for the events taking place in Ukraine.
