TBILISI, DFWatch–The president of Georgia on Thursday pardoned 280 prisoners.
According to the new head of the president’s pardon commission Zviad Koridze, eight of those pardoned are women and 10 minors.
The commission has reviewed 2,744 cases. All the appeals were sent to president. 1,228 of them satisfied the criteria defined by the regulations of the commission.
169 of the pardoned prisoners are going to be released from jail; among them, five women and four minors.
The remaining 111 got their sentences reduced.
This was the first time the president’s pardon commission reviewed the cases of prisoners under its new leader.
Koridze’s predecessor stepped down in order to run as an independent candidate in the local election on June 15. He won the election, and resigned as head of the commission.
