TBILISI, DFWatch–15.1 percent more visitors came to Georgia in September 2013 compared to same period last year.

According to Interior Ministry, 507 082 persons visited the country in September, while 4 075 600 visitors came to Georgia in the first nine months of the year. This is 25 percent more than in 2012 and 92 percent of the total number of visitors in 2012.

1 614 712 of visitors were tourists in January-September this year. The number of tourists is 18 percent more than last year.

886 504 people came to Georgia on transit visits, which is 59 percent more than last year, and the rest – or 1 574 384 – came for other purposes, 18 percent more than last year.

The largest number of visitors in September came from Turkey, followed by Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Ukraine and Iran.

The ministry also notes high activity of Georgian citizens. In the first nine months of 2013, there was 23.2 percent more arrivals and 24.3 percent more departures compared to 2012.
