TBILISI, DFWatch–The number of visitors to Georgia in May, 2015, was 14.7 percent more than in the same month last year.
According to the Interior Ministry, the number of people crossing the border in May was 454,545.
In the first five months of 2015, the total number of people entering Georgia was 1,835,545, which is 2 percent more than last year.
Broken down by category, the number of tourists in this period was 656,068, which is 3 percent less than last year; the number of visitors using Georgia as a transit country was 405,208, which is 21 percent more than last year, while the number of visitors with other goals was 774,269 – 1.3 percent less than last year.
In May, the majority of visitors came from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia and Ukraine. Among EU member states, the highest number of people came from Lithuania, Germany, Czech Republic, UK and Netherlands. The number of visitors from the United Arab Emirates increased by 639 percent, 104 percent more from Uzbekistan, 29 percent more from Kazakhstan.
The ministry also notes a 15 percent increase in visitors by US citizens.
