TBILISI, DFWatch–Ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili was supposed to meet at the Prosecutor’s Office today at 13:00, but he didn’t come. Supporters and opponents had gathered at the office and clashed and two people were detained for hooliganism.
“Today I am Misha [Mikheil Saakashvili] and question me too,” was the title of a rally in support of the former president.
They were met by another demonstration, partly of former political prisoners, who came to protest against Saakashvili, saying that they won’t let the support rally be conducted.
A scuffle started when a person from the rally against Saakashvili attempted to tear down a poster supporting the ex-president. This caused a physical confrontation and as result several people were detained.
Police formed a line between the two crowds of demonstrators.
Those against Saakashvili threw eggs and other objects at his supporters. Former political prisoner Melor Vachnadze was detained during this incident.
“I am ready to be responsible for what happened,” Interpressnews quotes him saying.
Both rallies are finished now.
