TBILISI, DFWatch–A suspect detained for a street shooting in Batumi on a list of 88 persons considered a security threat to the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.

The list presents persons who are allegedly involved in extreme activities and terrorism, and includes Yusuf Lakayev, who was detained on the night of September 13, suspected of shooting and wounding one policeman and a civilian.

According to data from the office providing security for the winter Olympics in Sochi, Lakayev was born in Chechnya in 1988.

Russian newspaper Gazeta in March published a list of 88 persons and organizations who according to Russian law enforcers are threat to the 2014 Olympics. Lakayev appears as number 48 on the list.

According to Georgia’s Interior Ministry, the suspect opened fire on the police Friday after they asked him for an ID. Lakayev was also wounded in the shooting.

Police also detained two Georgians who are suspected of aiding him, and the city court in Batumi placed all three detainees in pre-trial detention. Lakayev didn’t attend the hearing as he is in hospital.
