TBILISI, DFWatch — Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili spoke with Georgian soldiers serving in Afghanistan and thanked them for their service.

According to the press office of the Defense Ministry, Ivainishvili Wednesday visited the ministry and held a video conference with Georgian soldiers taking part in the ISAF mission.

“We acknowledge that you have served your country. We are proud that our army and you personally are involved in a common process of international security. You are doing a huge service to our country and the whole world,” the PM said.

The PM also addressed the commanders of different military units which are stationed in Georgia.

“Georgian Government and your Minister are doing their utmost to enable the soldiers to serve their homeland in a dignified way,” the ministry press office quotes him.

Defense Minister Irakli Alasania hosted the guest and it has a special important, as the prime minister recently demoted Alasania from the post of vice prime minister, explaining that he made ‘a small mistake’, as he was discussing the candidacy of president in his party without agreeing with Ivanishvili.

Afterwards, the PM said he spoke with Alasania a few times after this and said that there is no misunderstanding between them. At Tuesday’s press conference he also said that Alasania is not considered a candidate for president, as the defense minister promised the PM that he will work hard at the defense ministry for two years.
