TBILISI, DFWatch–A prisoner who escaped from a court building two days ago has been apprehended in Batumi on the Black Sea coast.
The prisoner escaped from the court cell in Gurjaani Regional Court on February 2 after hearing that he was being placed in pre-trial detention for two months.
The young man, who was arraigned for purposeful injury to another person, is now additionally charged with escaping from detention under section 379 of the Criminal Code.
The inspectors at Gurjaani’s regional police are now under investigation for negligence at work because they were responsible for supervising the prisoner.
