TBILISI, DFWatch–About 600 miners in western Georgia have gone on strike, demanding that the management fulfills a promise made during a strike last year.
In Chiatura, eomployees at Itkhvisi, Shukura, a factory and a mechanical workshop warn that if their demands aren’t met, about 3 700 workers will go on strike from tomorrow.
Their primary demand is to raise salaries. This was one of the promises made by the management at the mine more than a year ago. The company also promised to improve their working conditions.
The majority of working men and women in Chiatura are employed in the mines.
