TBILISI, DFWatch–Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili discussed the construction of the Kars-Akhalkalaki railway with President Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Azerbaijan.
The heads of state of the two neighboring countries underlined that the construction of Kars-Akhalkalaki railway, which will connect Turkey and Azerbaijan through Georgia, has a significant importance for both countries.
The presidents noted that Georgia and Azerbaijan this way will connect to Europe, which has a strategic and geopolitical importance and can be one of the main guarantees of stability and security in the South Caucasus region.
According to Saakashvili’s press office, the presidents also discussed bilateral relations and future cooperation.
Saakashvili’s visit to Azerbaijan will last until May 8 and will also include participation in the South Caucasus Forum organized by the Club of Madrid.
The ex-presidents of Finland, Romania, Turkey, and also President Ilham Aliyev will participate in the forum together with more than 300 experts and representatives of civil society. Saakashvili is to address the forum, according to its agenda.
