TBILISI, DFWatch – Giga Bokeria, Georgia’s Secretary of Security Council blames opposition leader Irakli Alasania of having caused the announcement by Abkhazia which declared the head of the EU monitoring mission (EUMM) to Georgia an undesirable person.
He expressed concern that irresponsible and stupid statements are made by various opposition forces.
Abkhazia said April 24 that the EUMM clearly is failing to conduct impartial and objective monitoring, because its head Andrzej Tyszkiewicz has not looked into the illegal paramilitary groups that are being built up in Georgia. Information about the groups was released by Georgian politicians.
Irakli Alasania, part of the Georgian Dream coalition and the leader of Free Democrats, said the government is setting up illegal paramilitary groups in Western Georgia for upcoming elections.
“The government wants to blame all failure on the opposition,” Zurab Abashidze, another Free Democrats leader says in response to the government’s accusations.
He says Georgia doesn’t even have the least progress in negotiation with de-facto governments of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and slowly takes situation in lane. On such background, he says government makes weak accusations to opposition parties.
“Alasania made these statements about armed groups, as a responsible politician, considering state interests, with a goal to prevent danger. Alasania sent material to Security Council and Bokeria published it. Afterwards, this absurd campaign started.”
General Andrzej Tyszkiewicz was one of members from EU of the planned meeting about incident prevention and react mechanisms. These meetings started several months after Russia-Georgian war in August, 2008. Issues like illegal border crossing and prisoner exchange are resolved during meetings.
