TBILISI, DFWatch – The U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, John Bass, says there is a deficit of curiosity and questioning among Georgian journalists.
He said this in Batumi while meeting with the media.
Bass says he sometimes is surprised by the lack of curiosity among some journalists, when they don’t ask difficult questions, aren’t interested in certain spheres, and aren’t asking questions after receiving a vague answer.
He said there is a lack of curiosity among journalists, but that it’s also a question of producers putting pressure on journalists.
“We often see that journalists don’t ask follow-up questions after receiving a comment, and aren’t skeptical towards answers they receive.”
Bass thinks this may reflect the quality level of journalism and the level of professionalism, but also the views of their producers or editorial policy of certain broadcasting organization.
