TBILISI, DFWatch–Students raised flags at the local administration buildings in many parts of Georgia today to mark Flag Day.
Flags were be raised in Batumi, Akhaltsikhe, Kazbegi, Akhmeta, Lagodekhi, Shindisi, Bolnisi and Marneuli, as well as on Enguri bridge, which is on the border with the de facto republic of Abkhazia.
At 15:00, the students arrived at the presidential palace where President Giorgi Margvelashvili addressed them.
A specially prepared flag was to be raised and afterward stored at the palace, the president’s administration announced.
In the evening, there is a dinner hosted by the president. Historical flags from different centuries are on display in the residence.
The Georgian flag consists of five red crosses on a white background and was approved as national flag on January 14, 2004, following the rose revolution.
National Flag Day was first observed on January 14, 2012 with a special event on Marjanishvili Square in Tbilisi.
