TBILISI, DFWatch–Dinamo Tbilisi and Dinamo Moscow played a friendship match in Tbilisi on Sunday. It was attended by Cristiano Ronaldo and Andriy Shevchenko, and guests from the Russian Duma.

The presence of the Russian parliamentarians caused youth groups to organize a protest rally outside the stadium. After the match there was an incident during which three youth were detained.

According to the Interior Ministry, the three were detained for violations of the administrative code, specifically for resisting law enforcers and petty hooliganism.

The friendship match ended 1-1 and was held at Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi. Vladimer Sobolov scored the first goal for Dinamo Moscow in the first half, while Xisco Muñoz equalized for Tbilisi Dinamo in the second half. This was the first friendship match between Moscow Dinamo and Tbilisi Dinamo for 24 years.

Part of Dinamo Tbilisi’s fans left the stadium as a sign of protest when Moscow Dinamo fans brought out their Russian flags and started waving them.

The youth organization Free Zone held a protest rally at the stadium entrance holding posters saying ‘United Georgia without occupants’. Rally participants claim the police tore up their posters and this was followed by a scuffle between the police and participants. Irakli Chkhirkvaia, Davit Gogokhia and Lasha Rukhaia were detained.

Rally participants protested against the presence of Russian parliamentarians.

“We protest that Russian politicians who insult Georgia are today at Tbilisi stadium,” they said.

A court hearing for the detainees will be held today, Monday.

Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in Tbilisi on Sunday together with his girlfriend, photo model Irina Shayk. Before the match, he opened a football academy in Tbilisi with Andriy Shevchenko and Kakhi Kaladze, former AC Milan player who is now Georgia’s Energy Minister.
