TBILISI, DFWatch — Two U.S. government officials arrived in Georgia Wednesday as part of a tour of the Caucasus.

Thomas Melia from the State Department and Catherine Newcombe from the Department of Justice, will meet with Georgian government officials, media and civil society.

They will also meet with the Chief Prosecutor, the Justice Minister, members of parliament and NGO representatives.

“The United States is committed to supporting democratic development in Georgia that will bring Georgia closer to achieving its Euro-Atlantic aspirations,” an embassy statement reads.

Melia’s full title is U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, while Newcombe is Regional Director for Eurasia in the Department of Justice.

The two will also visit Azerbaijan and Armenia.
