TBILISI, DFWatch–Two more government officials resigned in Georgia on Tuesday; one regional police chief and a deputy department head in the Defense Ministry.

Robert Grigalashvili, deputy head of military reporting, yesterday evening handed in his resignation to the Defense Ministry.

He was prosecutor in the case of the photo-journalists accused of spying in 2011, and also worked on the Sergo Tetradze murder case, as well as the Mukhrovani mutiny in 2009 – all controversial cases during the Saakashvili regime.

Grigalashvili was appointed by Defense Minister Mindia Janelidze, who in the end of 2014 replaced Irakli Alasania, who was fired during a political crisis following the detention of a number of Defense Ministry employees.

Akakhi Khasaia, head of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti police department, also resigned on Tuesday without specifying the reason.

The same day, the deputy head of the general inspection of the Defense Ministry, Valeri Zumbadze, resigned explaining that he wanted to put an end to accusations against him concerning high profile cases of the previous government, including the photographers case and the Lapankuri border shooting in 2012.

In January, Minister of Internal Affairs Alexandre Chikaidze resigned after a human rights activist was murdered. The activist, Yuri Vazagashvili, had been fighting to get a proper investigation into his son Zurab’s killing during the previous government.
