TBILISI, DFWatch–The S-7 road is closed in the north of Georgia near the Russian border. The section between Gudauri and Kobi is closed due to snow, ice, wind and poor visibility.

Between Aragvispiri and Gudauri, and between Kobi and the border crossing at Larsi, trailers, semi-trailers and vehicles with more than 30 seats are not allowed to drive.

Also in the south of the country the weather is causing problems. Drivers planning trips between Tbilisi and Armenia in the near future should avoid the route via Ninotsminda, as the SH-31 is closed.

The SH-31 road goes from Koda, near Tbilisi, to Ninotsminda, near the Armenian border. It is currently closed between Nardevani and Rodionovka due to wind and poor visibility.

The best route between Tbilisi and Armenia at the moment is to cross the border at Sadakhlo, the Roads Department told DFWatch.

The road section between Ninotsminda and the Armenian border is open, but between Ninotsminda and Tbilisi, the shortest available route is via Akhalkalaki, Borjomi and Khashuri, a considerable detour.

Snow and ice remains a problem on the SH-7 between Zugdidi and the Svanetian mountains. Between Lakhamura and Ushguli, vehicles without four-wheel drive must therefore use snow chains. Between Zugdidi and Lakhamura, there are no restrictions due to the weather.
