TBILISI, DFWatch–Ten Georgian citizens were released by authorities in the breakaway region South Ossetia Tuesday evening. They had been detained for ‘violating the border’.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the released are: Nugzar Gelashvili, from the village Klidstskharo, Gela Tsotsolashvili from Brolosani, Ivane Mumladze from Tseghveri, Rostom Shavadze from Khvani, Rostom Siradze from Korbouli, Gia Soloshvili from Kadoeti, Iulon Dvalishvili, from Kveshi, Giorgi Dzindzibadze from Gorisa, Murman Burdzenidze from Korbouli and Jimsher Makadze, from the village Korbouli.

All the villages detainees come from lie close to the border and most of them claim they didn’t actually cross the border before Russian border guards detained them.

Detentions have become more frequent recently, as it is season for picking Jonjoli, a plant which grows in the wild in Georgia and is used for cooking.

The Interior Ministry said after a meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms two days ago that there were 13 detainees held in the Tskhinvali detention facility.
