TBILISI, DFWatch – A former Interior minister suspected of participating in the attack on the de facto president of Abkhazia on February 22, committed suicide on Tuesday.

Abkhazian news agency Apsnypress reports that operational units of the co-called Interior Ministry and State Security Service together with employees of the General Prosecutor’s Office apprehended Almasbeya Kchacha, and the investigation brought evidence of, as well as testimony of his involvement in organizing the attacks on Ankvab.

“An examination of the apartment – on the bed in the bedroom Almasbeya Kchacha was found dead lying on his back in a dress, while holding a Margolin gun in his hand. On examination of the corpse of Almasbeya Kchacha, there was discovered an entry wound on the right temple, and an exit wound above the left ear, caused by firearms,” the Prosecutors Office of the de facto republic informs.

Almasbeya Kchacha was so-called Interior Minister from 1996 to 2003. In 2012 he nominated himself as candidate in the parliamentary elections.

The February 22 attack was the sixth assassination attempt against current de facto president Aleksander Ankvab. He survived, but two of his guards died.
