TBILISI, DFWatch — Seven persons died Monday evening in a car accident in Western Georgia, according to the Interior Ministry.

In a statement the ministry writes that the accident took place at about 20:00 in the village Tseva, in the Imereti region. A truck was carrying a large metal roll which fell off the bed of the truck and onto a minibus which was moving in the opposition direction.

The driver and five passengers, including a pregnant woman, died on the spot. Seven others were taken to the hospital; one of them did not survive.

The driver of the truck, a Turkish citizen, is currently in detention. Imereti police is investigating the accident. The detained driver may face up to ten years in jail.

An earlier report had the number of dead at eight.
