TBILISI, DFWatch–Giga Bokeria, Secretary of the Security Council, says he will leave the post if Georgian Dream candidate Giorgi Margvelashvili wins the presidential election.

Margvelashvili on Wednesday told journalists that in case of a Georgian Dream victory on October 27, Giga Bokeria won’t be secretary of the Security Council, as he doesn’t plan to cooperate with Bokeria.

“Will Bokeria continue to work as Secretary of the Security Council with me? No,” he said, adding that he has already thought about a replacement, but he didn’t name who that person is.

Later the same day, Bokeria responded that he doesn’t plan to stay on in the post as secretary if Margvelashvili wins. He said he doesn’t want to cooperate with any politician appointed by the Georgian Dream coalition.

“Our attitudes are compatible,” he said adding that he won’t cooperate with Margvelashvili either, “so this is a common desire. If the Georgian people choose him, I will make a decision myself and he won’t have to sign anything.”

Georgia’s National Security Council is a body subordinate to the president. Giga Bokeria and President Mikheil Saakashvili represent the same party, the National Movement.
