Tbilisi, DF Watch – The President of Georgia will address the nation at 18:00 today from the National Library. The diplomatic corps, church leaders, journalists and students are invited to attend the event. After his speech, the president will answer questions.

Mikheil Saakashvili’s speech, which he should have held at the parliament today, will be broadcast live by Georgian TV channels.

The president’s annual address to parliament was scheduled for today, however the ruling Georgian Dream coalition made a decision to postpone it until parliament has decided on a set of constitutional amendments, which include reviewing the powers of the president to dismiss government and parliament.

“Considering that on the prime minister’s demand, the majority refused to hear the report from the president which is defined by the constitution, the president made a decision to address the population from the National Library, and hold the same speech which he should have held at the legislative body,” the president’s spokesperson said on Thursday.
