TBILISI,DFWatch — The Special State Protection Service of Georgia is now under the control of the government, and not the president.

Parliament passed the law by 88 votes against 1 on Thursday.

Earlier, the president had a right to appoint the chair of the Special State Protection Service, but from now on, the power will reside with the prime minister.


In parallel, the special protection service will be set up separately and be under the control of the president and protect him and his family.

The Special State Protection Service has thirteen departments with a wide range of duties, including operative technical department, general inspection, economic department, department for protection of administrative buildings and government residences.
