TBILISI, DFWatch–Relatives of a pregnant woman died in childbirth rallied outside the hospital in Batumi on Wednesday.

Another pregnant woman died at the same hospital about a month ago.

Relatives of Maia Verdzadze (29) blame the doctor for her death. By blocking the road they demanded to meet with the management of the hospital and doctors who are involved in child delivery.

Relatives say the woman was feeling unwell for the last two weeks and had been asking for a caesarean section, but the doctors said no.

A few days ago, they learned that the child was dead. After the delivery, the doctors removed the woman’s uterus, but something went wrong after the second operation.

No-one from the hospital was willing to meet with Verdzadze’s relatives.

Not first who died in childbirth at same clinic

In February, another woman died after giving birth at the same maternity house in Batumi. The child survived.

Local newspaper Batumelebi quotes director of the hospital Nukri Bezhanidze saying that they have asked Georgia’s State Regulation Agency for Medical Activities to study the recent case and determine whether it was the doctors’ fault.
