TBILISI, DFWatch–Locals rallied Saturday in the Georgian port city Poti. They are opposed to a decision by the local government to demolish the naval station building.

Demonstrators say the building is a symbol of the city, which lies on the Black Sea coast and is one of two important port cities in Georgia.

The naval station was built in the 1970s. It came into ownership of the company APM Terminals Poti in 2011.

After a year, the company decided to demolish the building, which it received permission to do from Davit Babilua, who in 2014 used was head of the local city assembly.

Babilua refrained to comment for the media on Saturday, but promised to make an official statement in a few days.
