TBILISI, DFWatch–A prosecutor at the west Georgia branch of the Prosecutor’s Office has been suspended and is being evaluated following an alleged armed assault, the POG said in a statement released Monday evening.

The incident occurred in Tskhaltubo, a resort town near Kutaisi, on August 24, the statement continues.

The POG is withholding further details of the incident as well as the identity of the suspect.

However, according to Rustavi 2, an opposition-leaning TV channel, the assault occurred at the home of the victim, an army officer. The prosecutor, identified as Givi Shengelia, first physically assaulted the officer, then fired a pistol in his direction. The motive is unknown.
