TBILISI, DFWatch–The US Secretary of Defense Tuesday called Georgia’s Defense Minister and introduced him to the US action plan for Afghanistan.

The main topic of conversation between Leon Panetta and Irakli Alasania was what kind of new functions the Georgian soldiers will assume after the end of ISAF in Afghanistan, the press office of the Defense Ministry informs.

Panetta underlined that the US appreciates Georgia’s contribution to international operations in Afghanistan and underscored the professionalism of the Georgian military servicemen.

Alasania said Georgia remains a reliable partner of the US and Georgian soldiers will remain in Afghanistan till the end of ISAF and afterwards.

According to the press office, Alasania will continue having consultations about the future of Afghanistan during a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels on February 21-22.
