TBILISI, DFWatch – Riccardo Migliori, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, will arrive in Georgia for the election period, together with a delegation from the OSCE.

According to parliament’s press office, the delegation will arrive on August 19 and hold official meetings for several days.

August 21 a meeting is planned between the Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament. August 22, the delegation from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will meet with Davit Bakradze the Speaker of Parliament.

The Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Tonino Picula, head of election observation mission, Assembly Secretary General Spencer Oliver are among the delegation from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

OSCE is conducting observation of the election on October 1 and the period leading up to it. After weeks of campaigning by non-government organizations (NGOs) and the opposition, the government in April invited the OSCE and other international organizations to bring extra long-term observer missions to Georgia. Normally, long-term observers will arrive six to eight weeks before an election, which is now.

The opposition expresses dissatisfaction that long-term observers have not yet started functioning.
