TBILISI, DFWatch – Media in Russia and Georgia’s breakaway region South Ossetia report that the head of the investigation department at the de facto South Ossetian Prosecutor General’s office has been murdered.

Roland Chitayev was reported kidnapped on Monday evening and in the morning he was found dead in Vanat, one of the abandoned villages in the Tskhinvali region. He had two gunshot wounds; in the temple region and through the heart.

Merab Chigoyev, de facto South Ossetian Prosecutor General, told journalists that the murder was related to his professional activities. Chitayev was investigating two controversial cases: one centered on the former first Deputy Attorney General Eldar Kokoeva, the second one regarding an act of sabotage against Irbeg Beteev, former State Security Officer of the de facto President of South Ossetia.

“Two men are arrested – Arthur Agayev, an officer of state protection of South Ossetia and former Prosecutor General Ruslan Gabaraev. Gabaraev confessed to the murder of Chitayev, but cannot explain the motive for the crime,” Chigoyev said, according to Ria Novosti.
