Low voter turnout, but election’s legitimacy not in question

TBILISI, DFWatch–Despite low turnout, the legitimacy of today’s election is not in question, says Georgia’s Central Election Commission (CEC).

By 15:00, 32 percent had voted. In 2012’s parliamentary election, the turnout at 15:00 was 45 percent.

A spokesperson for CEC Sunday evening explained that the election will be legitimate despite the low number of votes cast, because the election legislation doesn’t define a lower limit for voter participation.
